Made for developers
An extension declares its routes, its screens and its settings, hooks into the pages with actions and filters, and runs its scheduled tasks with those of the site. A theme can override its templates, as those of the core.
Updates without surprises
Upload the new files, then click Update now: the database is brought up to date, and until then visitors are told that the site is being updated, never shown an error.
